(Baton Rouge, La.) — (September 13, 2017) On September 7, 2017 Cancer Services hosted the 35th Annual Capital Chefs’ Showcase at the Baton Rouge River Center. This fun and festive event brought in over $230,000 for Cancer Services.

Capital Chefs’ Showcase featured honorary chairs, Paul and Karen Mainieri who have been chairing this event since 2007. Over 1,000 attendees enjoyed an incredible evening that included delectable cuisine from the community’s finest chefs, restaurants and caterers (listed below), a Champagne & Diamonds raffle donated by Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry, a whiskey tasting presented by Calandro’s Supermarket, silent and live auctions, bars, music and more!

Since its inception in 1982, this historic event has been helping Cancer Services support the mission of improving life for those living with cancer. “The funds raised at Capital Chefs’ Showcase are vital to Cancer Services and will go a long way in helping the thousands of people we will serve each year affected by cancer in our community,” says David Perry, vice president at Arthur J Gallagher Risk Management Services and board president for Cancer Services. “What an amazing sight it was to see our community coming together to support our organization in a fun and exciting way!”

For the fourth year in a row, a cooking competition recognized the delicious contributions of the event’s chefs, caterers and restaurants. This optional competition awarded four winners and was facilitated by local celebrity, Food Network Star finalist and culinary enthusiast, Jay Ducote of Bite & Booze. Under Jay’s guidance, a panel of judges made up of food experts and other influential locals judged participating dishes in a Top Chef style manner throughout the event. The winners were announced that night and are as follows:

• Best Entrée – Baton Rouge General
• Best Dessert – Wanda and Phil Calkins Catering
