In partnership with SOHO Boutique Salon, 26 children of the Bella Bowman Children’s Program at Cancer Services received free haircuts this past Sunday. A continuing tradition at Cancer Services, back-to-school haircuts were first offered in August 2013 and give families affected by cancer a chance to experience a normal family chore in a special way. “It’s a great normalizing family event,” says Whitney Craig, the Children’s Programs Coordinator at Cancer Services, “Most people have to get haircuts, it’s just a fact of life, but many of our families can’t afford somewhere special. There were several little kids having their hair cut for the first time by someone other than Mom.” One dad of two teenage girls was particularly grateful for an opportunity to be with daughters, doing something they needed and enjoyed.

Special thanks to the SOHO Boutique Salon who volunteered the staff and space for the haircuts, especially Kim Bowman and salon owner Becky Broussard. Click here for pictures!
