This Saturday, December 7, a special group of individuals will run the Baton Rouge Beach Marathon in honor of loved ones affected with cancer. These 17 inaugural “LIFE RUNNERS” are raising money to support Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge and their mission to improve life for those living with cancer.
LIFE RUNNERS, a new initiative of Cancer Services, gives the community an opportunity to honor loved ones while making a difference in the lives of people affected by cancer in the Baton Rouge area. “This amazing group of LIFE RUNNERS are truly inspirational,” says Brian Hannah, CEO of Cancer Services, “Their dedication to not only their training, but to their fundraising efforts is phenomenal. Cancer Services is so fortunate to have their support.”
Supporting the community has always been a priority for the Baton Rouge Beach Marathon. Celebrating its 20th year in 2013, this race remains one of the only completely charitable marathons in the Southeast, donating all proceeds back into the community. “Supporting the community is extremely important to me,” says race organizer, Craig Watson. “It is a privilege to work with Cancer Services and other local non-profits that make such a huge difference in our community.
The Baton Rouge Beach Marathon is this Saturday, December 7 at 7 a.m. at Milford Wampold Memorial Park, 901 Stanford Avenue (also known as ‘Baton Rouge Beach’). Nearly 800 runners are expected to take part in this event. Spectators and supporters are encouraged to attend to cheer on LIFE RUNNERS and all participants. The Cancer Services tent will offer opportunities to take pictures, make signs to show support and have fun.
