Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge helps our clients with advocacy, referral and healthcare navigation. These services are free of charge and may require an appointment. Please call (225) 927-2273 if you need help with the following services:
Prescription Assistance
Cancer Services' staff members assist our clients with obtaining medications from pharmaceutical companies free or at a discounted cost. We identify these resources, assist with the application process and provide follow-up work as needed.
Nutritional Supplement Assistance
In addition to the nutritional supplements provided by our agency at no charge, Cancer Services' staff members assist our clients with receiving free nutritional supplements from various resources. We identify these resources, assist with the application process and provide follow-up to ensure timely receipt of the supplement.
Home Visits
Cancer Services offers home visits to interested clients. Home visits are conducted by trained volunteers who provide additional support and comfort to our clients. Home visit volunteers are often cancer survivors who have the ability to listen and offer needed words of encouragement.
Community Resources
Cancer Services' staff members are familiar with area resources that provide assistance with food, shelter, clothing and medical needs. Our staff helps to connect our clients with these resources and advocates on their behalf.

Health Care Navigation includes the following services. Please call ahead for these services to see if an appointment is needed.
- Medicare Part D Consulting
Medicare Part D is prescription insurance for individuals with Medicare. Cancer Services staff members assist our clients with obtaining information about various Medicare Part D plans in order to determine which plan best suits their needs. We also access financial assistance to help pay for their plans.
- Financial Assistance Applications
Various local, state and federal programs provide financial assistance to individuals with cancer. Cancer Services' staff helps our clients identify these resources and assists with all aspects of the application process.
- Insurance Benefits
Cancer Services' staff members understand that insurance benefits and coverage can be confusing. We help our clients better understand their benefits by reviewing insurance literature and documentation. We also communicate with clients' insurance companies when necessary.
- Healthcare Provider Communication
When needed, Cancer Services' staff members communicate with our clients' healthcare providers in order to clarify billing issues, assist with appointment scheduling, request prescription refills and discuss other issues as requested by our clients.
